The Mamie Taylor cocktail is a popular Scotch classic from the early 20th century. Tall and refreshing, this whisky cocktail follows a similar format of a whisky highball, featuring carbonation and lots of ice. The Mamie Taylor though, adds plenty of zingy ginger in the form of ginger juice and ginger ale. Ginger ale is a good mixer for whisky beginners, due to ginger being ideal for balancing the depth of whisky. Enjoy!

PRO TIP

Ginger juice can be substituted with fresh ginger pieces shaken with the other ingredients for a fresher, yet lighter flavour

GINGER JUICE

To make ginger juice, juice 2 parts of fresh ginger juice and blend with 1 part sugar

Add all ingredients except ginger ale into a cocktail shaker

SHAKE IT UP

Shake hard for approximately 10 seconds

POUR

Strain into a highball glass filled with ice and top with ginger ale

Garnish with mint and lime wedge and serve

This whisky cocktail was named after a famous opera singer – it’s said the drink was created for her when she requested something refreshing on a hot day.
